Did you know
Want the longest lasting flowers?
Some flowers last longer than others. For example, carnations and mums last longer than daffodils and iris. We’re always happy to help you pick a combination that will give you the look you want and the longevity you’re after.
No matter what flowers you choose, to keep them fresh longer
it’s important to follow a few simple rules.
Flowers need water:
The minute the stems are out of water, they begin to form a barrier on the bottom. Always cut an inch off the stems as you put them into water.
Change the water often using the floral food packet we provide. It contains nutrients and a biocide to prevent bacteria from clogging up the stems. Do this every day or two before the water gets cloudy. You don’t want to drink dirty water and neither do they!
Temperature Matters:
Keep them in a cool spot away from direct sunlight, heating or cooling vents, direct drafts and radiators. Leaving them in a hot car for even minutes can ruin flowers. They’ll lose more moisture through their surface than they’re able to replenish through their stems.
Freezing temperatures are just as deadly. Water in their tiny, delicate cell structures will freeze, rupturing the cells, damaging the flowers.
Wilting:
Flowers are shipped in from all over the world. We buy directly from local farmers as well as from growers as far away as China. While we treat all flowers with a hydration solution as soon as they arrive, occasionally, you may have one or two of the more delicate flowers wilt. If this happens, re-cut the stem at least two inches and immediately put into a vase of cool water and floral food and place in a cool location to recover.
If you run out of the floral food we’ve provided, feel free to stop by. We’re always happy to give you more.
We hope you enjoy your flowers!
